On this short break our expert guide will take us on a walking tour of the city and will show us major points of interest like the Piazza Maggiore, the Fountain of Neptune, the food markets and the towers of Bologna. Then we’ll enjoy lunch at an Osteria and savour flavours of the region including Bologna Mortadella and tortellini soup. We’ll also enjoy a guided excursion to Parma, where we’ll learn how the famous Prosciutto di Parma is made and indulge in some samples as well. There will be plenty of free time to explore Bologna at a leisurely pace and this Italy holiday also offers an optional excursion to Modena, known for its production of balsamic vinegar and being the home city of Enzo Ferrari.     This morning, we join our guide as we head to Parma to discover the secrets of making the world-famous Prosciutto di Parma at a Parma ham factory, finishing the visit with a tasting and light lunch.

    This afternoon we will enjoy a walking tour of Parma to discover the history of this small city of art before we transfer back to Bologna.

    Morning Bologna Tour

    After breakfast this morning we set out on a half-day guided tour of Bologna. We will walk the cobbled streets of the food markets and view some of the city’s highlights including the Piazza Maggiore with Neptune’s Fountain. Lunch today is included in a typical Osteria where we will start with the famous Bologna Mortadella followed by a traditional handmade tortellini soup.

    Today is a free day, for relaxing or independent sightseeing. Our guide will be on hand to suggest activities based on your interests. 

    Optional Excursion to Modena

    On today's excursion we will begin with a visit to an ancient Acetaia, where the flavourful Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena PDO is produced. Our next stop is to a museum dedicated to Enzo Ferrari, built around and inside the home where he was born which houses unique exhibitions that change every 6 months. We will also enjoy a guided walking tour of Modena city. Following our tour there will be free time at leisure before returning to our hotel. 

    This excursion is subject to minimum numbers.
